Player of the week: Heather Bubolo

By BOB PUTNAM

© St. Petersburg Times, published October 1, 2000

Bubolo, a senior setter, has been instrumental in Tarpon Springs' turnaround. The Spongers have won six of their past seven matches. Their one loss during that span? A three-game loss to powerful Clearwater.

During the stretch, Bubolo has provided consistent passing to a young group of hitters. She leads the team in assists with 117 and is fourth in digs with 17.

This week's best bet

Clearwater at East Lake

The Tornadoes have been cruising in Class 4A with a 17-1 record and a No. 2 ranking. The Eagles, meanwhile, started slow before taking off the past three weeks.

Despite Clearwater's record, there is concern with the way it has been winning lately.

The Tornadoes needed three games to beat Tarpon Springs and Largo last week. However, Clearwater will have no problem getting ready for Tuesday's match against East Lake.

After all, last season, the Eagles beat the Tornadoes for the first time in school history and handed Clearwater its first loss to a county opponent in five years.

Can you say revenge?
