Florida resorts rank higher than its golf
Compiled from Times wires © St. Petersburg Times, published October 1, 2000 The luxurious Ritz-Carlton Naples was pronounced North America's top resort in Conde Nast Traveler's annual poll of readers. In results announced last week, more than 25,000 readers polled also ranked the Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach the fifth-best resort; Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island No. 8; the Fisher Island Club in Miami No. 10; Four Seasons Palm Beach No. 13; and Disney's Grand Floridian Beach Resort No. 16. In the small hotels category, Astor Place, in Miami, was No. 18; Little Palm Island, on Little Torch Key, was No. 22; and the Gardens Hotel in Key West came in No. 24. The Kennedy Space Center on Cape Canaveral was named eighth-best U.S. monument. But in a separate poll of the magazine's readers, no Florida golf course was voted among the top 10 in North America and the Caribbean. Four courses on the Hawaiian island of Hawaii made the 10. That list: 1. The Greenbrier, in West Virginia; 2. Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, on the island of Hawaii; 3. Manele Bay Hotel, Lanai, Hawaii; 4. Mauna Lani Bay Hotel, Hawaii; 5. Four Seasons Resort, Nevis; 6. Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Hawaii; 7. Orchid at Mauna Lani, Hawaii; 8. American Club in Wisconsin; 9. Lodge at Koele, Lanai, Hawaii; 10. Princeville Hotel, Kauai, Hawaii. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
