Anita Allison Walters, 38, lifelong resident of Dade City, was diagnosed with skin cancer in 1995. The cost of Walters' illness has led a group of her family and friends to organize a fundraiser to help defray some of her expenses. A barbecue dinner, for a $5 donation, will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the San Antonio Restaurant, 32625 State Road 52. Several items will be auctioned and numerous raffles will take place throughout the afternoon. A trust fund has been set up at First Union Bank; donations to the Anita Allison Walters Trust Fund can be made at any First Union. The Annual Miss Land O'Lakes Pageant will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Land O'Lakes Recreation Complex, 3020 Collier Parkway. The public is invited. Ticket prices are $10 at the door for adults and $8 in advance, $5 for students (ages 12-18) and children (younger than 11). Advanced tickets can be purchased at SunTrust Bank in Land O'Lakes and the Land O'Lakes or Central Pasco chambers of commerce.
The East Pasco Family YMCA, 37301 Chapel Hill Loop, is offering an eight-week Boot Camp for youths ages 13 to adult from 6-7 p.m. Oct. 9 through Dec. 1. Participants will receive a boot camp T-shirt. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Chinsegut Nature Center, 23212 Lake Lindsey Road in Brooksville, will host a Speaker's Night at 7 p.m. Thursday. Julie Hovis, head of the commission's conservation efforts for woodpeckers, will discuss the natural history of the bird and what is being done to help this endangered species. The Historical Association is announcing Women in History Month and requesting the public to write a short story (75-100 words) about the special woman in your life for the upcoming WOMEN of Pasco County publication.
