Watch me, watch you

Here are a couple of quite opinionated articles about cameras in public spaces. Both clearly don't like the subject matter. Whether you agree with the concept or not, both will stir your gray matter. The first article was written in 1995, well before we got so enthralled with cameras such as those in Ybor City. The second, written recently, lambasts Visionic's offer to equip airports with face scanning technology.

Rumor control

www.snopes2.com/rumors/rumors.htm

E-mail is a blessing and a curse when it comes to instant information from well-meaning friends and relatives. And a major catastrophe, such as the events of Sept. 11, had the wires humming with both true and false information. Step in snopes2.com. This well-respected site has been home to debunking misinformation for a while and is a natural place to seek out which way is up.

Apple soft wear

shop.store.yahoo.com/redlightrunner/

During the opening of the Apple Store at International Plaza, the Tech Times team noted the glaring omission of hats, T-shirts and the like. Indeed, you would think that devoted Macophiles would gobble this stuff up. But none were to be had. The online Apple store doesn't carry wearables, either. So what are you to do? Fire up a browser and head over to Red Light Runner's store. In addition to clothing, there are some wildly expensive posters for the well-heeled.

Driving hunger

www.RoadFood.com

Ah, the joys and romance of the open road. The wind in your hair (if you have any), the dirt on your skin, the lack of money in your wallet because of all those speeding tickets. And don't forget the rumbling in your midsection. That's easily taken care of with a resource such as this site. You can check out local sites to see how they're doing, then head north if the fancy takes you.

Find odd things

www.XRefer.com

Finding a new search engine is either like watching fireworks go off or watching paint dry, and seldom anything between. This site really tickled my fancy because it searches such disparate sources as the Penguin Encyclopedia of Places, the Oxford Dictionary of Music, the Macmillan Dictionary of Women's Biography and the Bloomsbury Guide to Human Thought. It's not Google or Altavista and it's not an encyclopedia, either. But it's a great bookmark for your search library.
