For news written especially for kids about the terrorist attacks and the aftermath, visit the scholastic.com Web site. The site contains stories about the altered New York skyline, Islam, Afghanistan and more. Also on the site are ideas for how you can help and a place to post a message with your thoughts and feelings about the event.
Stars, stripes and strength
In response to the terrorist attacks, TeenPeople.com is providing an outlet for teenagers to share their thoughts and do something positive in the wake of the tragedy. You can mail in or e-mail inspirational messages, thoughts or poems to be posted on TeenPeople.com. by clicking on Stars, Stripes and Strength. The messages will also be printed in red, white or blue and arranged to create a giant American flag.
Mentors are marvelous
Through the use of original writing and inspirational texts from songs, essays, poetry and other sources, a dozen young women ranging in age from 12 to 17 pay homage to the mentors in their lives during the theatrical production The Wind Beneath Our Wings. The performance takes place at the Shimberg Playhouse at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12.50, (813) 229-7827.
10 years of Nick News
In honor of Nick News being on the air for a decade, Nickelodeon is airing Turning Ten: A Nick News Celebration Thursday at 8 p.m. The show is a retrospective of Nick News' most compelling stories about events such as the Persian Gulf War, school shootings, AIDS, racism and politics. Nick News is written and hosted by veteran broadcast journalist Linda Ellerbee.
Show's got wheels
Skate, the first action-drama series set against the backdrop of the sport of skateboarding, premieres Sunday at 7 a.m. on NBC affiliate WFLA-Ch. 8. The show centers on aspiring pro skater Josh Raden (played by TV newcomer Christopher Jorgens) and will feature guest appearances by pros such as Guinness Book of World Records setter Danny Way.
