Slightly cooler temperatures and fair amounts of rain have led to cooler flats temperatures. Coupled with the arrival of larger greenback, there now are excellent shallow water fishing opportunities.
Fishing for redfish around the Anclote River has been sensational. Look for them to be stacked around oyster bars, docks and patches of saw grass.
Anchor at casting distance away from a likely spot during the last hour of the incoming tide. Try throwing a few handfuls of pinched greenback toward the structure.
If you don't see any strikes or boils within the first 5-10 minutes, odds are you're in the wrong spot. However, if they are home, you'll know it. On a recent trip, we caught 17 reds between 24 and 30 inches at one spot.
Snook also have picked up in recent weeks. They have started to abandon the warm, salty waters of the beach for the stained, brackish waters of river mouths and estuaries.
They should start feeding well in preparation for winter. They'll probably bite most at the turn of the tide, especially at the beginning of the outgoing.
Whether it's redfish or snook, you can't miss. Armed with patience and plenty of whitebait, you'll be ready to kick off a promising fall fishing season.
