Fans get Power PlayBy TOM JONES © St. Petersburg Times, published October 2, 1999 TAMPA -- FanLand is back. Remember the popular interactive game area during the Lightning's days at then-ThunderDome in St. Petersburg? Well, the new Lightning owners know a good thing when they hear about it. So, they are bringing it back, with a few twists, starting with the name. This time, it will be called, Power Play: The Entertainment Zone. "One of the questions we've been asked frequently by fans was whether or not we were going to bring back FanLand," Lightning President Ron Campbell said. "It obviously was a very popular part of the Lightning experience in the past, and we believe Power Play: The Entertainment Zone will bring back that same family fun atmosphere at games." Free to the public and open two hours before all home games, Power Play: The Entertainment Zone will be outdoors on the main plaza at the west side of the Ice Palace. Among the features: Your Front Page: Fans can see their name in a newspaper headline. Hockey Slapshot: Tests the speed of fans' slap shots. Quarterback Pass: Try to hit the receiver with a defender in the way. Golf Driving Range: A simulated driving range. Double-Shot Basketball: Work on your shot or compete against a friend at the twin hoops. Bungee Run: Race where competitors are held back by a bungee cord.
