Fan sues Bucs over season ticket mix-up

TAMPA -- A Buccaneers fan sued the team Monday, claiming that he hasn't received the tickets for the 2000 season that his deceased father was buying when he died.

Byron F. Dawkins of Seffner had paid $1,763 toward two club level II season seats when he died almost one year ago, according to the suit filed in Hillsborough Circuit Court. His son and the executor of his will, Kevin Dawkins, paid the remaining $2,319.46 in April. But he never got the tickets, the suit states.

Dawkins' complaint says getting his money back isn't enough. He wants the tickets.

He'll get them, said a team spokesman Monday night.

Reggie Roberts said the ticket office has been trying to work out the confusion surrounding Dawkins' tickets. Roberts said that after learning of Byron Dawkins' death, the ticket office refunded his deposit to the company he was using to purchase tickets, but that refund never made it to Kevin Dawkins. The Bucs have been trying to get that money back before giving the younger Dawkins the tickets.

"We're a little surprised that Mr. Dawkins chose to go this route," Roberts. "Our people have been working hard to successfully resolve this situation."

Roberts said the Bucs are ready to give Dawkins his tickets and parking pass without getting their refunded deposit back from the ticket brokering company, if necessary.

"Our intent as an organization is to . . . get the man his tickets," Roberts said. "If he'll come in and talk to us, we can do that."

Neither Dawkins nor his attorney could be reached for comment Monday night.
