Woman saves herself, children from RV fireBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published October 3, 2000 BRANDON -- A California woman saved herself and her two children from their smoking recreational vehicle Monday afternoon just minutes before it was consumed by flames. Hillsborough Sheriff's deputies said Margaret Henderson, who is partially paralyzed and uses a wheelchair, noticed smoke at the back of her Winnebago as she drove east on Highway 60 near the intersection of Providence Road. She pulled into the center turn lane and lowered two boys, ages 6 and 2, out the window. Then, she lowered herself from the window. After Hillsborough County Fire Rescue workers doused the flames, Henderson and the two boys were taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries. They hadn't been admitted to the hospital Monday night. The Winnebago was a total loss, officials said. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
