CCC lineman breaks his leg

It was good news-bad news Friday night for Clearwater Central Catholic.

The Marauders hammered Class 2A, No. 8-ranked Melbourne Central Catholic 42-0 in Melbourne, but they lost senior defensive tackle Tom Statsick to a broken leg, probably for the season.

Statsick broke the fibula and tibia in his left leg on a bizarre play in which an MCC player also broke his leg.

"It was kind of a freak thing," said CCC coach John Davis, whose team is 4-1 and has a bye this week. "He was kind of tackling a guy, and the guy was spinning him around, and his leg hit a Melbourne player's leg in the shin and broke his leg also."

Statsick, who last season started every game at linebacker before converting to defensive tackle, had 42 tackles in five games, four for a loss. He was injured in the third quarter after having made eight tackles.
