Woman dies after her car hits tow trucks

ST. PETERSBURG -- A 28-year-old woman died early Sunday after her car plowed into at least two tow trucks parked on the side of First Avenue N.

Twyla Y. Moon of 638 Third Ave. S died at 6:05 a.m. at Bayfront Medical Center.

She had been driving west on First Avenue N in her 1999 Mitsubishi when she struck the rear of a 1978 Ford tow truck parked on the south side of the street. The truck, which was unoccupied, rolled forward and hit another tow truck.

Man shot in shoulder while riding bicycle

ST. PETERSBURG -- A 23-year-old man was shot in the left shoulder Friday evening while riding his bicycle in the area of 13th Avenue S and 22nd Street, police said.

Charles Byrd, 8081/2 30th Ave. S, was treated at Bayfront Medical Center and released.

Byrd had been talking to his girlfriend, who was driving past in her car, when three people in a green sport utility vehicle approached him, police said. One man wearing a white mask got out of the car and hit him with a gun on the left side of his face. The gun fired, wounding the victim's shoulder.

Police had no suspects Monday night.

40-physician clinic planned for Central Pasco

WESLEY CHAPEL -- Central Pasco County, where medical care lags dismally behind housing growth, has landed what promises to be a 40-physician clinic on State Road 54 in Wesley Chapel.

Dr. Hasan Hashmi, a Pakistani-born surgeon who founded Point of Care Clinic in Zephyrhills, is bringing what he calls his patient-centered philosophy to central Pasco.

In July, Hashmi and his partners installed themselves in a temporary office at Quail Hollow Plaza, behind Peacock's Smokehouse & Grill.

Next year, the partners will relocate to 8.6 acres they bought on either side of Gateway Boulevard, the entrance to Saddlebrook Corporate Center.

Hashmi said his clinic will include general practitioners and at least one rheumatologist, gastrointestinal specialist, cardiologist and colon-rectal surgeon.
