All games at 7:30 unless noted.

Boca Ciega (0-5) at East Lake (3-2)

LAST MEETING: East Lake 42, Boca Ciega 7 (1998)

THE SKINNY: For a moment, let's cut Bogie some slack. The Pirates were in for a tough season from the outset with just four returning seniors and hardly any size on the roster. Did they deserve a September schedule of Lakewood, Seminole, Largo and Northeast? The final combined score was 179-7. October's slate of games is far more tolerable -- that is, after this week. East Lake found itself in an unexpected dogfight with winless Pinellas Park and survived in three overtimes, but using that game to justify Bogie having a chance is a stretch. East Lake will pound, pound, pound away on the ground as usual and win easily.

Dixie Hollins (3-2) at Osceola (4-1)

LAST MEETING: Osceola 27, Dixie Hollins 7 (2000)

THE SKINNY: The Rebels have set themselves up nicely in district play with wins at Tarpon Springs and at home against Dunedin, but starting Oct. 12 is a three-week stretch of district games that will decide everything. Can you say "look-ahead game"? For Osceola, this is a much more important contest, as a win would clinch a .500 season and an improvement on last year's 4-6 mark. And if not secured tonight, a good chance for a fifth win might only come around one more time, as Seminole, Palm Harbor U., Northeast and Largo round out the Warriors' schedule.
