Top Five
Current movies recommended by the Times
1. Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival -- "Ten straight days of queer cinema" featuring more than 50 features, short films and documentaries. Tampa Theatre only.
2. Hearts in Atlantis -- Gently mysterious stranger (Anthony Hopkins) changes the life of a young boy in a warm film based on Stephen King's novel. Filmed with casual grace by director Scott Hicks and the late cinematographer Piotr Sobocinski.
3. Cirque du Soleil: Journey of Man -- The famed, phantasmagorical circus troupe is even more dazzling with IMAX projection, in 3-D, no less. Channelside Cinemas only.
4. Serendipity -- Strangers in the night leave their possible reunion to fate. John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale are the best romantic comedy couple of the year so far.
5. Joy Ride -- Two road-tripping brothers engage in a duel with an angry trucker. Pulp fiction at its best from director John Dahl (Rounders, The Last Seduction).
