Return of the funny native
Tampa native Danny Bevins is returning to the place that gave him his comedy start: Coconuts Comedy Club in St. Pete Beach. Bevins won last year's San Francisco Stand-up Comedy Competition. Three years ago, he was one of HBO's Best New Artists at the Aspen Comedy Arts Festival.
Bevins performs at 9:30 p.m. tonight through Sunday at the club in the Howard Johnson Resort, 6100 Gulf Blvd. Tickets are $15. For reservations, call (727) 360-5653.
Entranced by George Acosta
Many people would lump all electronic music together and call it electronica, but this newly mainstream music has many genres, including ambient, house and techno. And George Acosta reigns supreme in the electronica world of trance.
Since the release of his breakthrough CD, Awake, the demand for his talents has skyrocketed worldwide. Acosta is based in Miami as a resident deejay at the trendy Shadow Lounge and a staple at the Winter Music Conference. He also plays regular gigs in Seattle, Puerto Rico, Washington, New Orleans and Orlando.
His latest, AM/PM, released last spring, is a combination of slow, melodic grooves on the AM side and fist-pumping, crazed beats on the flip side. The AM/PM tour has taken Acosta to Europe and South America in recent months.
Acosta is working on another CD in Europe that will branch more into techno and old school breakbeats.
