Challenge at the keyboard
Eugenia Pilyavina won't be doing any coasting in her piano recital, not with Beethoven's Tempest Sonata, two intermezzi by Brahms, a selection of Chopin pieces plus five Rachmaninoff preludes on the program. Pilyavina, originally from Ukraine and now living in Tampa, studied at the Kiev Conservatory and the Manhattan School of Music, where she graduated with a master's degree in piano performance. The winner of a number of competitions, including the first annual Chopin Competition in New York, she plays at 3 p.m. Sunday at Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center. Tickets: $12 and $14.
