The 11th annual Old Hyde Park Village Art Festival unites more than 200 artists working in a variety of mediums, including oil, watercolor, jewelry, stained glass, sculpture, photography and ceramics.
South Florida's Lori Hlavsa, for example, creates "Hlavsa dolls" with cotton rag fiber and clay.
Prices at the festival range from $20 for a pair of earrings to $30,000 for a metal sculpture.
Most artists will accept cash or checks, and many will take credit cards.
"It's a very successful, long-running festival," said Hyde Park general manager Pat Westerhouse. Sunshine Artist magazine has rated it one of the top 100 art festivals in the country.
Even though the event is titled "annual," it actually is presented twice a year. The next one is in February and will feature different artists.
The festival is expected to draw about 30,000 people.
Musicians also will perform during the festival. Shirley Dominguez plays Latin rhythms on a Paraguayan harp, and Doug Walker uses double tenor steel drums to perform jazz, rock and classical pieces.
