Madeira fish fry is coming up

MADEIRA BEACH -- The Madeira Beach Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association has scheduled its Eighth Annual Fish Fry & Fun Fest from 2 to 7 p.m. Oct. 20.

The event is the PTA's major fundraiser. It benefits the school and is primarily supported by donations from businesses and the community.

Besides the fish or hot dog dinner, which includes cole slaw and baked beans, the event features children's games and prizes, entertainment, demonstrations and an auction, which begins at 3:30 p.m. The auction items include condominium stays on the beaches, entertainment packages and gift certificates.

Event T-shirts will also be on sale.

Adult dinners cost $5 and children's dinners cost $3. Other food items and drinks are also available.

St. Pete Beach

Gulf Beaches Elementary in St. Pete Beach will hold its 71st Annual Fish Broil from 2 to 8 p.m. Nov. 3.

The longstanding event, a popular tradition, includes a carnival and auction.

Gulf Beaches Elementary is at 8600 Boca Ciega Drive.

Redington Beach

The Redington Beach Property Owners Association will present the Downtown Stompers Dixieland/Swing/Blues Band from Wintertur, Switzerland.

They will be performing from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Town Park, which is at 164th Street and Gulf Boulevard.

The nine-member band and their families will be flown to the United States by Toni Jegen, who splits his time between Redington Beach and Switzerland. Jegen is also providing the sound equipment.

Proceeds from the $3 concert tickets will be donated to the families of the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and to the Redington Beach Property Owners Scholarship Fund.

Everyone is invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the concert. For tickets or information, call Mark Deighton at (727) 393-0100.

Treasure Island

The Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce will have its monthly luncheon from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Oct. 11 in the banquet room of the Thunderbird Beach Resort.

The cost is $11 per person, which includes tax and gratuity. The Thunderbird is at 10700 Gulf Blvd., at the intersection with 107th Avenue.
