WEST POINT, N.Y. -- With a 28-14 victory over Houston on Saturday, Army snapped a seven-game losing streak and won the first game at Michie Stadium since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The win came as a welcome respite for a team whose players have not only endured three straight losses to open the season but also realize they could end up fighting terrorism.

"We feel our responsibilities as football players is to go out and play football -- for the fans, for the Corps, for the Army," co-captain Clint Dodson said. "We're a rallying point. I've been getting e-mails from people all over the world saying, "We are looking at you guys and looking up to you.' "

Dodson finished with a team-high seven catches, including a 5-yard touchdown at the end of the first half that put Army up 21-14, a lead it didn't relinquish.

The win was just the second for Army in its past 19 games. Houston has lost eight straight.

"I think that our players were excited about being back home," Army coach Todd Berry said. "It's good to be back home and it's good to win in front of the Corps."

Chad Jenkins, who had 168 yards passing and ran for a score, agreed: "We're absolutely elated right now. You won't find too many happier guys than this group."

Josh Holden sparked the Knights, running for a career-high 151 yards and two touchdowns. His second score, a 5-yarder, gave Army a 14-point lead heading into the fourth quarter against a passing offense ranked 19th in the country coming in.

"They didn't try to trick us," Houston defensive lineman Lee Ingersoll said. "They just came right at us and we couldn't stop it."

The Cougars finished with 508 yards of offense but weren't able to score after several long drives. In the first half, Houston drove from its 3 to the Army 4 before Kelly Robertson threw an interception that Jason Frazier returned to the Houston 11. Trailing by 14 in the fourth, Houston drove inside the Army 10 but turned the ball over on downs.

Houston's leading rusher, Joffrey Reynolds, had negative yardage in the second half after gaining 102 in the first.

Off the field, there was heightened security around the stadium and patriotic messages inside it.

CINCINNATI 46, TULANE 33: Freshman Gino Guidugli threw four touchdowns to tie a school record for host Cincinnati.

Mewelde Moore set a Tulane record by rushing for 249 yards, including a 2-yard touchdown. He also had 87 yards receiving for 336 total yards, a Conference USA record. Guidugli was 22-for-32 for 312 yards, a yard better than his school record for a freshman.

Ray Jackson scored once in the first quarter and twice more in the third quarter on passes of 20 and 3 yards, and Tye Keith combined with Guidugli on a 45-yard play as the Bearcats took a 39-19 lead.

MEMPHIS 22, SOUTHERN MISS. Ryan White kicked a 45-yard field goal with 7:33 to play for the host Tigers. The Memphis defense scored a touchdown and had a safety in the second half and held the Golden Eagles to 98 yards after the break. Of the eight scores, six were the result of miscues that ranged from blocked punts, turnovers and the safety.
