PROVO, Utah -- Gary Crowton is showing a gambler's flair in his first season as BYU's coach. Then again, he's got a pair of aces in Luke Staley and Brandon Doman.

Staley ran for 207 yards and four touchdowns and caught another scoring pass from Doman, one of four TD throws by "The Domanator," as No. 20 BYU beat winless Utah State 54-34 late Friday night.

"In a nutshell, it was just too much Doman and Staley," Utah State coach Mick Dennehy said.

All night, Staley delivered big runs for the Cougars (5-0) but perhaps none bigger than when Crowton asked him to produce a first down on fourth and 1 from BYU's 29 early in the third quarter.

"Our running game is real tough," Staley said. "With the offensive linemen we have, I have the easy part out there. All I have to do is get the ball and just run through the hole."

Doman, who was 24-of-34 for 293 yards with one interception, added two fourth-quarter scoring passes as BYU improved to 5-0 for the first time since going 13-0 to win the national title in 1984.

"He's a great running back. He can run the ball, catch passes and even throw them," Utah State linebacker Jesse Busta said.
