AARP bus brakes for bay vote

AARP, the mega-marketing and advocacy group for people older than 50, describes itself as non-partisan. But when it comes to prescription drugs for seniors, the organization favors Vice President Al Gore's position right down the line.

To promote a new drug benefit within traditional Medicare, AARP has been sending a Voter Express bus around the country to stimulate rallies and whip up support.

On Monday, it's the Tampa Bay area's turn.

The bus will stop at St. Petersburg's Sunshine Center, 330 Fifth St. N, at 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Speakers will share their experiences, extol the virtues of Medicare and ask seniors to sign pledge cards that urge Congress to pass a drug benefit.

The rally is free and open to anyone.
