Open house is science odyssey
The U.S. Geological Survey's open house, "2001: A Science Odyssey," takes place from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Center for Coastal Studies, 600 Fourth St. S, St. Petersburg. While touring the facilities, you can learn about ongoing research, meet scientists, view displays on geology, coral reefs, fish, wildlife, hurricanes and more. Halloween chills on Disney Channel
The Disney Channel's Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge finds the place where witches, ghosts and goblins live all year long threatened once again. Two generations of witches must use their skills and smarts to vanquish a warlock who has cast an evil spell on the town. The movie premieres Friday at 8 p.m. and airs throughout the month.
Clearwater girl wins reporting job
Sara Huberty, 12, of Clearwater has been chosen as a reporter for Time for Kids, a weekly newsmagazine published inside special issues of Time magazine. She also writes for the Web site www.timeforkids.com. The reporters were chosen from a nationwide competition that included writing samples and personal statements. Sarah, a student at Safety Harbor Middle School, is also a kidcaster for Tampa Bay's Radio Disney station, WWMI-AM 1380.
