Man accused of shooting woman at Elks Lodge

Man accused of shooting woman at Elks Lodge

HUDSON -- A 67-year-old man was arrested Saturday after he burst into a local Elks Lodge with a handgun and tried to shoot a woman in the head, according to Pasco County sheriff's reports.

Ray Norval Aliff of 12249 Shady Hills Road in Spring Hill told deputies that the woman, named Mary Hallie Noda, had "taken everything he owned" and that she had "betrayed him," reports stated.

He said the two had been dating since Easter.

Deputies said Noda was sitting at a table at the Aripeka Elks Lodge, 9135 Denton Ave., talking to friends about 8 p.m. when the incident happened.

They said Aliff walked up behind her and fired one shot, which hit Noda in her head behind the left ear.

Noda suffered serious injuries in the shooting and was flown by helicopter to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. Hospital officials declined to provide information on her condition Sunday.

Aliff allegedly told deputies after the incident: "I meant to shoot her in the head. I think I shot her in the back between the shoulders."

Aliff faces charges of attempted first-degree murder. He was taken to the Land O'Lakes jail, where he remained Sunday without bail.

Early morning accident leaves two men injured

MOON LAKE -- An early morning wreck on State Road 52 left two men injured and destroyed the two vehicles involved.

The wreck happened just after 5:30 a.m. near the intersection of SR 52 and Moon Lake Road. It was not clear Sunday how the accident happened, but it involved a pickup truck and a station wagon, emergency officials said.

In the wake of the crash, the station wagon flipped on its side and trapped the 30-year-old driver. Emergency workers had to cut the roof of the car and extract the driver, who suffered a skull fracture.

Medical helicopters were not able to fly because of poor weather, so the man was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured as seriously and was taken to Bayonet Point Hospital. Florida Highway Patrol troopers were investigating the accident Sunday.
