    Free financial aid seminar

    Help is available for parents of college-bound seniors, juniors and sophomores. Seminole Community Library will host a financial aid seminar 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18. and 10 to 11 a.m. Oct. 21 at 9199 113th St. N, Seminole. The seminar will present types of financial aid, ways to maximize financial aid, application tips and a formula to estimate the amount of aid students will receive. Reservations are required.     VFW sponsors essay contest

    High school students are eligible to enter an audio-essay contest sponsored by VFW posts 2473 and 1658 and their ladies auxiliaries. Participants should supply an audio cassette and written essay on the theme "What Price Freedom?" The deadline for entries is Nov. 1.     Opportunity for teen volunteers

    The Pinellas County YouthMapping program is looking for teens interested in public speaking, Web-page design and data entry. Participating teens, 14 to 18 years old, will survey Pinellas County businesses, community landmarks and recreation centers to collect data about youth-friendly resources. Volunteers will also survey 300 local teens to determine their needs.

    After collecting the data, teens will present survey results to local businesses and the community. For more information call(727) 582-2513.

    Teens invited to explore health care careers

    Largo Medical Center's Medical Explorer Post 950 is hosting a meeting for prospective members at 7 to 8 p.m. Oct. 17 in the first floor classrooms of the hospital, 201 14th St. SW, Largo.

    The medical exploring program offers youth, 14 to 21, an opportunity to pursue special interests and learn about health care careers. Members of Explorer Post 950 meet regularly at Largo Medical Center, where they learn skills, get hands-on experiences, shadow employees and perform volunteer functions in the hospital. Members also participate in social activities, community service projects and educational outings.
