Belleair man suspected of computer piracy

BELLEAIR -- A man has been arrested on charges he sold counterfeit Microsoft products from his home.

Steven James Tuten, 50, of 607 Gardenia St., was charged with two counts of distribution of counterfeit trademarks and one count of possession with intent to distribute a counterfeit trademark, arrest reports state.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents began investigating Tuten in September after Microsoft investigators told them they suspected Tuten was selling counterfeit products, court records state.

They executed a search warrant at his home Sept. 18 and seized several copies of records and papers.

Tuten's arrest comes a month after two Clearwater businessmen were arrested in what is believed to be Pinellas County's first computer piracy case. Microsoft's losses in that case were almost $900,000. FDLE officials said the Tuten case does not involve as much counterfeit merchandise.
