Lt. Cmdr. Jon Turner, U.S. Naval Reserve, received the Joint Services Achievement Medal for meritorious service while assigned to Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base.

Turner is operations officer of the reserve component of Special Boat Unit 20. He is the son of Mag and Jim Turner of Belleair Beach.

Mario Pais, son of Renee and Jose Pais Jr. of St. Petersburg, has completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He earned honor recruit status for leadership, initiative, military bearing, response toorders, sportsmanship, qualification of a good shipmate and high overall scholastic standing.

Following hull maintenance technician training, Pais will be stationed in San Diego where he will train to be a Navy Seal. He is a graduate of Boca Ciega High School.
