Anti-violence vigil moved to Thursday at mall
Hoping to draw a larger audience, the Salvation Army Domestic Violence Program announced Tuesday that it has moved its candlelight vigil and "Take Back the Night" event to Thursday night inside the Gulf View Square Mall in Port Richey.
The Salvation Army program, which runs a west Pasco shelter and does outreach for domestic violence victims, sponsors the event as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The event will be combined with the "Take a Stand Against Domestic Violence" event, during which volunteers will stand inside the mall handing out information about domestic violence from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The rescheduled event will begin at 8 p.m. in the common area near Dillard's. West Pasco vocalist Mikki Taylor will sing, and the event will end with a candlelight procession to the mall's main entrance.
Seats still are available for a luncheon Friday with Gov. Jeb Bush. Bush will speak on behalf of state Senate candidate Victor Crist in the Sunset Room of the Seven Springs Country Club at 3535 Trophy Blvd. in New Port Richey. The luncheon costs $16 and lasts from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. RSVP to Ann Bunting at (727) 862-1063 by 4 p.m. Thursday.
