CLEARWATER -- The city and the North Greenwood neighborhood will host a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday for a new recreation and aquatics center, new branch library and street beautification project along N Greenwood Avenue. The event begins 11 a.m. at N Greenwood Avenue and Palmetto Street, the area where the new city facilities will be constructed.

The new branch library, a $1.2-million project, should open in August 2002. The $4.2-million recreation complex, which will include a double gymnasium, pool and 30-foot-high water slide, is set to be ready by October 2002. The street beautification project is a $2.1-million undertaking slated to be finished by the end of 2002.
