Times worker dies after fall from carBy Times staff writer
© St. Petersburg Times, ST. PETERSBURG -- A 38-year-old husband and father died Tuesday of injuries he suffered in an unusual accident over the weekend. Francis John "Mickey" Miller, a transportation supervisor for the St. Petersburg Times, died of head injuries at Bayfront Medical Center. Miller was injured Saturday night after attending a youth football game at St. Petersburg Catholic High School. His wife of 16 years, Pamela, was driving her car in the school's parking lot after the game. Miller asked his wife for a ride back to his vehicle, which was parked elsewhere in the lot, police said. But instead of getting inside his wife's car, Miller opted to ride on the car's hood, police said. He slipped off the car and fell to the asphalt, hitting his head. Alcohol was not involved in the accident, police said. Miller worked a late shift at the Times, dispatching delivery trucks. He also worked a second job as a mechanic. "He was an excellent employee, energetic and polite," said Times transportation operations manager Bill Boger. "I know his family well enough to know that he was a devoted husband and father." Miller, who lived in St. Petersburg, is survived by his wife and three children, his mother and five siblings. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
