A joyous tropical sound

Plena Libre is a hip, 13-piece tropical music band that is absolutely huge in its native Puerto Rico. Led by bassist and composer Gary Nunez, the ensemble incorporates Latin beats and folklore to make sexy music enticing folks to dance, dance, dance.

Plena music is a joyous sound, full of rhythm, and Plena Libre is a young band. The acts' live shows are energetic, coloring a traditional sound with youthful passion and vigor.

Plena Libre performs with Caribe at 8 p.m. Friday at the Coliseum, 535 Fourth Ave. N, St. Petersburg. $16 advance, $20 at the door. (727) 892-5202.
