Bonnie Phillips, a certified instructor, will teach the techniques of brush strokes and composition in painting; water-friendly oils will be used. The painting subject will be a Persian cat with bow. Carrollwood/Northdale/OdessaThe Bob Sierra YMCA, 4029 Northdale Blvd., is offering a master swimming program for adults age 19 and older interested in competitive swimming. Classes will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sundays beginning next week or from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. The cost is $28 for facility members, $52 for program members. The program will concentrate on competing in short distance swim meets, open water swimming and triathlons as well as staying in shape. There will also be specific training programs for each individual, goal setting, physical fitness and preparing for various competitive events. The make-believe event will feature entertainment by WTVT-Fox 13 reporters Nancy Alexander and Russell Rhodes, the singing group PYT and more. Other events will revolve around some of the most popular children's books, featuring celebrity readers, costumed characters, Mr. Greenjeans of The New Captain Kangaroo Show, Vicky, the Radio Disney Fun Squad Fairy, the Landers Sisters and Uncle Huggabug from the The Huggabug Club. Colorful vignettes depicting categories of food, humor, imagination, nighttime dreams and water and weather will provide backdrops for the storybooks, the readers and the accompanying crafts activity. Also, breakfast will be available. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for children. Proceeds will be used to support a new preschool gallery, "O is for Oranges," which will offer activities to encourage math and science readiness. An opening reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. The exhibition, titled Lynn Davison-New Paintings, features more than 30 works on paper and canvas. Davison's figurative works reflect the influence of Goya and Michelangelo as well as contemporary artist Odd Nerdrum. West ShoreThe Tampa Super Bowl Task Force is seeking volunteers to assist with Super Bowl XXXV, which will be at Raymond James Stadium on Jan. 28, 2001. There will be a wide selection of unique hand-crafted items from around the world at moderate prices. The items were made for UNICEF, the United Nations children's fund and SERRV, a self-help handicrafts program that assures the crafters in poor countries receive a fair price for their work.
