Art follows life
Mary Alice Braukman's natural surroundings have always inspired her abstract watercolors. So what happens when she leaves her gulf-front home and buys a summer retreat in the mountains of North Carolina? The change is evident in her exhibit now at Nancy Markoe Gallery. View From the Falls, a mixed water media and collage work shown here, reveals rocklike shapes in a composition that seems to carry the eye from sky to earth and upward again. Braukman, who lives in St. Petersburg, is past president of the Florida Watercolor Society and director of the Kanuga Watercolor Workshops, Hendersonville, N.C. She exhibits throughout the United States. Nancy Markoe Gallery is at 3112 Pass-a-Grille Way, St. Pete Beach; (727) 360-0729. Hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday through Oct. 24. Free.
