Hot rods roll in
More than 1,400 hot rods, like this 1940 Ford pickup and the 1936 Dodge reflected in its shine, will fill the Florida State Fairgrounds Friday through Sunday for the annual NSRA Southeast Street Rod Nationals. The event includes a trade show, vintage parts swap meet, crafts and entertainment. The show is from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the fairgrounds, U.S. 301 off Interstate 4, Tampa. $10 per day adult, $3 for ages 6 to 12. Cowboys, cowgirls and cooks will fill the Hernando County Airport, 16371 Runway Drive, Brooksville, all weekend for the annual Hernando County Rodeo and Barbecue Festival. The festival starts at 6 p.m. Friday with a midway and petting zoo and entertainment at 8 p.m. The midway opens at 11 a.m. Saturday, and so does the barbecue competition. The festival includes two cooking events: the Florida Championship Barbecue Cookoff, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, and the Backyard Barbecue, a competition for amateurs. The awards ceremony for both barbecue events is at 2:30 p.m. The rodeo is at 7 p.m. Saturday and will include bareback riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding, team roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing and bull riding. The Wiley Fox Band entertains from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday, and the midway remains open until 1 a.m. The festival continues Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a rodeo at 2. Festival admission is $5 per carload. Rodeo admission is $10 adult advance, $12 at the gate; $4 for ages 4 to 12 advance, $5 at gate. Rodeo dance admission $5, or free with rodeo ticket.
