The Rays outrighted Paul Hoover to Triple-A Durham on Thursday, allowing them to keep the versatile 25-year-old in the organization while opening a spot on the 40-man roster.

Hoover was called up Sept. 8 when catcher John Flaherty was sidelined with a herniated disc in his neck. Hoover appeared in three games, starting one, and went 1-for-4.

The Rays have 39 players on the roster, plus two on the 60-day disabled list, Ariel Prieto and Wilson Alvarez.
