CITRUS PARK ELEMENTARY: The PTA will present Family Science Night from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 25 at the school. The free event will feature hands-on experiments and a live animal exhibit, courtesy of the Sickles High Future Farmers of America.

The student council will collect monetary donations for the Silver Shield Foundation, for children of fallen firefighters and law enforcerment officers, until the end of October. School district guidance counselors invite eighth-graders and their parents to a career planning meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 30. Topics of discussion will include the importance of setting educational goals, planning for high school courses, and completing an educational and career plan.

ESSRIG ELEMENTARY: Conference nights are 3:30 to 8:30 Tuesday and Thursday. The media center's weeklong book fair will be open both nights for parents and students as well as during normal school hours. The school's Fall Festival, featuring more than 55 booths and activities, will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 26 at the school. Event activities will include a dunking booth, face painting, games and fortunetelling. Booth tickets are 50 cents each. Rib dinners are $7, chicken dinners, $5, and hot dog dinners, $1.50. WRITING CONTEST: The GFWC Lutz-Land O'Lakes Woman's Club is sponsoring the GFWC Youth Writing Contest. Students in grades 1-12 may submit one poem or short story. Poems may be any style, with a length of eight and 30 lines. Stories should be limited to 2,000 words. Include on the top corner of each page submitted: Name, address, telephone number, school, grade, sponsoring club (Lutz-Land O' Lakes Woman's Club) and title of the manuscript.
