John and Susan Sykes are this year's recipients of the Florida Orchestra Guild's Golden Baton Award. In addition to establishing a $1-million endowment fund, the couple gave the orchestra a $1-million challenge grant last year. The grant was matched by contributions from more than 600 first-time donors and motivated more than 1,000 donors to increase their contributions to the orchestra.

The award will be presented to the Sykes at a Nov. 5 brunch at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club.
