PINELLAS PARK -- City Council members unanimously agreed to hire a Tampa law firm to investigate allegations of a "hit list" in the Police Department.
The appointment of D. Robert Lewis supersedes an earlier decision the council made to hire a retired judge to conduct the inquiry. City officials feared for the health of retired Judge John T. Ware after they appointed him.
Lewis will look into allegations that, among other things, some officers were targeted for firing based on their age and willingness to speak out.
