PINELLAS PARK -- The scene: Local dignitaries munched on chicken wings.

Black-and-white movies of Our Gang comedies played on a portable movie screen.

A stilt walker juggled bowling pins and knives.

In the background, sparks cascaded from a welder's torch.

The event: Thursday's celebration of the completion of the shell for the 16-screen movie theaters at ParkSide mall, 7900 U.S. 19 N.

The state-of-the-art theater with stadium seating is scheduled to open in mid April.
