On its first possession, Auburn tried a fake punt on fourth-and-3 at its 21. Deandre Green was wide open, but the pass from punter Damon Duval was short. UF scored four plays later.
A pass interference penalty against UF receiver Brian Haugabrook for blocking downfield appeared to negate an 18-yard touchdown from Rex Grossman to Jabar Gaffney. After conferring, officials waved off the penalty because Gaffney caught the ball behind the line of scrimmage.
Since Auburn beat Florida 36-33 at the Swamp in 1994, the Gators have outscored the Tigers 113-20 in three victories at home: 51-10 in 1996, 24-3 in 1998 and 38-7 Saturday.
Flags at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium were lowered to half-staff to honor the 17 American sailors killed aboard the USS Cole. ... Florida has outscored opponents 161-52 in the first half this season. ... The announced crowd of 85,710 was the fifth-largest at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
