EVENTS: The Hernando Endoscopy and Surgery Center's next seminar will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Dr. Gary McCarragher will lead a discussion on the importance of screening for colon cancer.

The clinic will be in the conference room of the Hernando Medical Park, 12208 Cortez Blvd. McCarragher is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.

Weeki Wachee Springs has added a "Scream Contest" to this year's Wild and Wicked Nights event.

Children from ages 4 through 12 are invited to demonstrate their most blood-curdling scream. The contest will be held each evening in two categories: ages 4 through 7 at 8 p.m. and ages 8 through 12 at 9 p.m.

The Wild and Wicked Nights Halloween promotion takes place during two weekends, this Friday and Saturday and Oct. 26 and 27. Admission is $6.95, plus tax, for adults and $5.95, plus tax, for children ages 3 to 10. Preregister by calling 596-2062 or 1-877-GO-WEEKI.

The Service Corps of Retired Executives is sponsoring a seminar on how to successfully start a small business in Florida. The seminar will include information on bookkeeping procedures, financial statements and business liability insurance.

The seminar will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at 6128 U.S. 19 in New Port Richey. The cost of the course is $15. For information, call Hap Fairman at (727) 869-2466.

The Nature Coast Chapter of the Florida Society of Accounting and Tax Professionals will have its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Boston Cooker restaurant on Spring Hill Drive in Spring Hill.

Edward Jones representatives in Spring Hill will host a broadcast for individual investors at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Nov. 3. The broadcast will feature a discussion on the increasingly popular IRS tax code 529, which allows individuals to save money for qualifying education expenses.

The Hernando County Housing Authority and the Hernando County Board of Realtors are cosponsoring a workshop on Florida's landlord/tenant law, fair housing requirements and ways to avoid liability. The workshop is designed for Realtors, property managers and landlords.

It will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday in the County Commission chambers at the Hernando County Government Center in downtown Brooksville. For information, call the housing authority at 754-4160.
