Woman says kidnapping claim was a prankBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published October 16, 2000 TAMPA -- A woman who claimed to have been kidnapped Saturday was playing a joke on a convenience store clerk, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said. The woman entered the Radiant Food store at 2801 S 50th St. with two men. On her way out, she slipped the clerk a note saying they had kidnapped her. The clerk noted the tag number on the car and called authorities. The Sheriff's Office put out a statewide alert for a dark blue 1993 Ford Escort. Tampa police later found the car and its three occupants at a hotel on Nebraska Avenue. The woman admitted to pulling a joke. Spokesman Rod Reder said charges won't be filed.
