Jazz Holiday makes changes, story, Oct. 15.
Give me a break, please! "Top" national talent?
Boney James, it seems, makes up about 125 percent of radio station 94.1's playlist. They mention his name on the air around 685 times a day. He ought to be paying them!
Sign Diana Krall, bring back Spyro Gyra or do something exciting. Maybe then we'll be willing to pay, in advance, through the nose, for VIP seats that ruin the show for people sitting where we sat last year.
Can this city accomplish anything unlaced with mediocrity?
P.S. You're sure there's not going to be heavy construction equipment beeping and roaring in the background?

Public must keep watch on new zoning requests
Re: Plan to redevelop RV park withdrawn, story, Sept. 29.
We are reminded now of our basic priorities when facing crises that change our lives by altering basic freedoms and pleasures we enjoy. It happened in a local way in northern Pinellas County 51/2 months ago. There was a threat of undesirable commercial expansion along Lake Tarpon just south of Klosterman Road with a plan to turn a wooded campground into a Target and Lowe's complex.
They didn't expect such extensive response from the informed public. We can take heart in the recent withdrawal of the rezoning request.
But ongoing vigilance is required. We should keep our eyes open for future announcements in the paper. The developer can choose to reapply as soon as March 2002. The applicant wanted to focus the public on the displacement of the residents, but the larger issue was rezoning recreational property.
Case File Z/LU-7-5-01 is closed. What else does the closed file contain?
All the signed petitions and hundreds of letters from concerned citizens of Pinellas County.
The minutes of the initial 9 a.m. meeting of the zoning board in which 18 of 60 attending opponents testified under oath.
The application revision that switched 17 percent of the property along the lakefront from commercial to residential to appease opponents (but we still noticed that 100 percent of the parcel would be rezoned from recreation).
The developer's agreement submitted by the original lawyer that listed eight specific "Obligations of the Owner and Developer"' that become contractual liabilities attached to the property forever. These are again offered to appease objections. Did this offer more concessions than the new lawyer thought necessary?
It may be that the owner and developer have a new strategy in the making that was not well-served by the contents of the current file. But they should be certain that watchful eyes will note any future plan to reduce our limited recreational land in Pinellas County and increase the traffic congestion and danger on U.S. 19.
We were heartened throughout the process by the openness of Paul Cassel, John Cueva and the rest of the county staff who oversee rezoning requests. Our county commissioners welcomed our input and would hopefully keep the best interests of Pinellas as their priority.

Who's responsible for letting terrorists in?
What I want to know is, who in our government and its agencies is to blame for the situation we are now in? Who has not upheld their responsibility to protect the American people? Of all our elected government representatives and heads of agencies that have sworn to protect the American people, who is responsible for dereliction of duty? Who has permitted the infiltration of people into this country who are sworn to kill us?
Yes, we are an open society, but that does not require that we let rabid dogs into our house.
Who is responsible for not heeding the warnings through the years that terrorists would be committing acts of destruction and murder in this country?
