Teen accused of running down signs

DADE CITY -- An 18-year-old Dade City man took the term "rolling stop" to a new level Monday, police say.

Pasco County sheriff's deputies said William Lamar Walker, of 36843 Trilby Road, intentionally drove his white 1995 Isuzu pickup over two stop signs, one street sign, one speed limit sign and two dead end signs Monday night.

Sheriff's deputies already were searching the area for a white pickup after neighbors reported one speeding through the area.

When they stopped Walker, he was on the phone reporting an accident to the Florida Highway Patrol, said Jon Powers, a Sheriff's Office spokesman.

"He apparently started out with the story that he struck something in the road and wasn't sure what it was," Powers said.

Walker later admitted plowing down the signs but wouldn't give deputies any explanation why, Powers said.

Walker was arrested and charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief.

He remained at Land O'Lakes jail Tuesday afternoon on $500 bail.

Man charged with attacking deputy

LAND O'LAKES -- A 19-year-old man was arrested Monday after, police say, he threw punches at a Pasco County sheriff's deputy and spit in the eyes of a paramedic.

Shawn Anthony Jeffers, of 2509 Shadecrest Road, was in a heated dispute with his landlord Monday evening when deputies arrived, a report stated.

Jeffers was using vulgar language and repeatedly made threatening gestures toward Deputy Todd Morrison, the report states. He then began swinging his arms aggressively, at which time Morrison placed him under arrest.

When Pasco County Fire and Rescue arrived to check Jeffers for injuries, he spit in the eyes of one paramedic.

Jeffers was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and battery on a law enforcement officer.

He was released from the Land O'Lakes Jail Tuesday afternoon on his own recognizance.
