Focus on volunteers

The American Cancer Society needs administrative volunteers for its Pinellas Park office, 4801 86th Ave. N. Volunteer positions also are available with the following programs:

drivers, Road to Recovery, providing ground transportation for cancer patients to medical appointments;

cosmetologists and other helpers, Look Good Feel Better program, designed to help patients feel better about their physical appearance while undergoing treatment;

and breast cancer survivors, for the Reach to Recovery program, to provide encouragement and support to patients.

Volunteers are needed for the Art Arbor Festival, Nov. 11-12 at Boyd Hill Nature Park, 1101 Country Club Way S, St. Petersburg. For information, call 893-7326.

Volunteers are needed for the Times Festival of Reading, Nov. 11-12 at Eckerd College, 4200 54th Ave. S, St. Petersburg. Jobs include selling festival merchandise, setting up of events and beverage sales. For information, call the Volunteer Action Center at 550-4045.

The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast will hold a volunteer patient/family support training class at 1 p.m. Nov. 13-Dec. 11 at the Hospice's south community service center, 5639 49th St. N, St. Petersburg. After completing the 18-hour training program, volunteers will be ready to provide support to patients and their families. Duties include running errands, visiting the homebound, providing bereavement support to family members, and picking up and delivering medical equipment and supplies. ALPHA, 701 Fifth Ave. N, St. Petersburg, will hold a volunteer orientation from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 18. The organization is in need of front-desk receptionists, babysitters, mentors and community outreach assistants. For information, call Kelli Caputo at 822-8190.
