Rear Admiral Thomas W. Steffens is the special guest at the Pinellas Park/Mid-County Chamber of Commerce breakfast at 8 a.m. this morning. The breakfast will be held at the England Brothers Band Shell, 5010 81st Ave. N, Pinellas Park. Steffens is the Chief of Staff and Director of the Center for Command Support, Headquarters United States Special Operations Command and was former Director of Intelligence and Information Operation Center before assuming his current position in July. Holocaust museum invites educators to free event

Florida Holocaust Museum invites Pinellas and Hillsborough county educators to attend Teacher Appreciation Night from 5 to 9 p.m. today. The evening is free and will include docent-led tours, previews of educational resources, snacks and entertainment. Susan D. Bachrach, author of Tell Them We Remember, will speak. Mobile Home Park hosts charity sale

Fife and drum corps seeks new members

College of Law to hold information day

Stetson University College of Law, 1401 61st St. S, St. Petersburg holds a free daylong program for prospective law students from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. The program will provide an overview of the college and seminars. Friends of Strays holds Adoptober Fest

Friends of Strays will offer kittens and cats for adoption at a reduced rate during Adoptober Fest through Oct. 28.

Holocaust museum hosts diversity workshop

A workshop for parents and other adults who spend time with young people will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Florida Holocaust Museum, 55 Fifth St. S, St. Petersburg. The interactive session includes a series of exercises to better understand and appreciate diversity and offer suggestions to promote open communication and positive social action. YouthBuild offers training program for youths 16-24

Grants offered by Tampa Bay Estuary Program

The Tampa Bay Estuary Program is offering several small grants for bay-related education projects in the following categories: stormwater pollution, habitat restoration and protection, boater and angler education, and youth education.

St. Petersburg band seeks new members

16th Infantry Regiment needs your help

Museum seeks witnesses to Holocaust experience

Since 1994, the Florida Holocaust Museum, 55 Fifth St. S, St. Petersburg, has been interviewing Holocaust survivors, and now the museum is expanding its work to include refugees, hidden children, liberators, protectors, freedom fighters and children of survivors.

Because of the age of these eyewitnesses -- most are over 65 -- the museum considers making an official record of the testimonies a priority.

If you have an eyewitness account or have information pertaining to the events surrounding the Nazi rise to power, invasion of Europe or other Nazi war crimes, the museum asks for your participation in the project. For information, call the museum at 820-0100.

Golf coupon book reduced to half price

The Arthritis Foundation Golf Book will be available for half price until Oct. 31.

The book is on sale for $7.50 and provides coupons for free or reduced greens fees at more than 300 Florida golf courses. The coupons are valid until the end of October.

Program teaches dangers of substance abuse

Family Resources Inc., a non-profit family service provider that works in conjunction with the James B. Sanderlin Family Center, offers the Kinship Care Family Heritage program for children ages 6-10 and their caregivers.

The program is open to caregiver families who are active participants in support groups at the Sanderlin Center, who are in need of assistance or have struggled with substance abuse problems.

The program will be offered in three 14-week segments beginning this summer and continuing through August 2001. The purpose is to provide stability for children in the caregiver's homes by strengthening the overall family unit and educating children about the dangers of substance abuse and the availability of community resources and prevention services.
