City lowers fees for residents to receive reclaimed water
LARGO -- City commissioners Tuesday night unanimously approved several measures aimed at encouraging people to connect to Largo's reclaimed-water system. The commission agreed to lower the fee to hook up to Largo's reclaimed water system from $250 to $125. Commissioners also approved lowering the percentage of residents in a neighborhood needed to sign a petition requesting the service from 75 percent to 65 percent. In addition, commissioners agreed to extend the service to residents in the Coastal Oaks subdivision and Park View Estates.
OLDSMAR -- City Council members unanimously approved naming the baseball complex at Canal Park on Tampa Road after Robyn Beverland, the son of former Mayor Jerry Beverland. Robyn "The Beaver" Beverland died two years ago after battling a rare genetic disorder that battered his body. Although he had a stumbling walk, a stutter, constant sweat and diminishing eyesight, Robyn Beverland was known around town as a willing volunteer and throughout the county as a folk artist. Soon after his father started him painting for therapy, he received national recognition for his paintings. Oldsmar Little League representative Gary Papa told council members at a meeting Tuesday that the league wanted to name the fields the Robyn Beverland Baseball Complex at Canal Park because he embodies a "can-do attitude" that the league wants to teach its players. The league also plans to erect a display of Robyn Beverland's work and his life story at the complex.
