Fall art fest harvests a new venue
By JOY DAVIS-PLATT © St. Petersburg Times, published October 20, 2000 Despite being uprooted two months before it was to open, the 27th annual Fall Harvest of Art is expected to be bountiful. The Spring Hill Art League's annual festival has been moved to the Sand Hill Boy Scout Reservation from Weeki Wachee Park where it has been held for the past two years. Festival organizers say the decision to move was made in September because of conflicts with Weeki Wachee Spring and the city of Weeki Wachee. Art league president Anne Preston expects about 80 exhibitors at this year's festival with a good mix of fine artists and crafters. Pottery, paintings, stained glass and crafts of all kinds will be on display, Preston said. The new location, which hosts the Brooksville Raid Festival each year in January, boasts parking for 5,000 cars and plenty of room for vendors and visitors, Preston said. "This may well turn out to be a blessing because of all the construction (on U.S. 19,)" Preston said. "If people want to come, I'm sure they'll be there with bells on." Besides artist and crafters, organizers will bring all new food vendors into the mix for this year's festival. Fare will include jambalaya, fish sandwiches, pork chop sandwiches, sausages, hamburgers and hot dogs. "We have come up with a good mix," Preston said. "There should be something for everyone." The Spring Hill Art League's 27th annual Harvest of Art will be 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Sand Hill Scout Reservation on State Road 50, east of Weeki Wachee. Admission is free.
