The playoff chase

(District records in parentheses)

CLASS 5A, DISTRICT 7: An East Lake (2-0) win tonight against Hillsborough (2-0) doesn't guarantee a playoff berth as the Eagles still play at Chamberlain (2-1) on Nov. 3. Regardless, a win Nov. 3 clinches a berth.

4A-7: Clearwater (0-3) and Northeast (0-3) are eliminated. Boca Ciega (2-1) and Pinellas Park (1-2) need upsets tonight against Seminole (3-0) and Largo (3-0), respectively, to stay alive. Seminole is at Largo on Nov. 3.

4A-6: Palm Harbor U. (1-2) must beat Gulf (0-2) tonight and hope Ridgewood (1-1) beats Land O'Lakes (1-1) tonight. Then a Countryside (3-0) win at Ridgewood on Nov. 3 puts PHU, Ridgewood and LOL (if it beats Gulf Nov. 3) in a tiebreaker for the runner-up berth. Countryside is in the playoffs, but it still could lose the district title to Ridgewood.

3A-7: Dixie Hollins (1-2), Dunedin (1-2) and Osceola (1-2) are still alive but must win their final two district games and hope the stars align. Only Lakewood (0-3) is eliminated. Tarpon Springs (3-0) and Gibbs (3-0) can clinch with wins tonight and then battle for the title Nov. 3.

2A-7: Clearwater CC (3-0) can clinch the title and SP Catholic (2-1) the runner-up spot with wins tonight.

A-8: Fort Meade (3-0) will win the district. Keswick Christian (3-2) has completed its district slate and is rooting for Lakeland Santa Fe (2-1) to beat Shorecrest (2-1) tonight. With Shorecrest likely to beat Northside Christian (1-3) Nov. 3 and Santa Fe likely to lose to Fort Meade next week, there then would be a three-way tiebreaker for the runner-up berth. In two-way ties, Shorecrest beats Keswick and Keswick beats Lakeland Santa Fe. Indian Rocks Christian (0-4) is eliminated.

-- Note: From some districts a third wild-card team will be chosen.
