Times digestBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published October 22, 2000 Superintendent forum is for students onlyINVERNESS -- Students are invited to attend a student-only forum featuring the candidates for school superintendent. The forum will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Citrus High School. Speaking will be incumbent Republican Pete Kelly, Democrat David Hickey, and Ansel Briggs, who has no party affiliation. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions after the candidates give formal presentations. The forum was organized through the office of elections supervisor Susan Gill, who noted that young people have said they don't feel elected officials listen to them. Contestants sought for scarecrow contestCRYSTAL RIVER -- The organizers of the 13th annual Scarecrow Festival are looking for scarecrow builders to participate in the annual Scarecrow Building Contest. The winner will receive a pair of one-day tickets to the Crystal River Jam at Rock Crusher Canyon. Scarecrows can be built at the site or at home and brought to the festival. The entry fee is $5. A pumpkin decorating and pumpkin carving contest will also take place. Contestants are asked to purchase their pumpkins from the Pumpkin Patch in front of Cobblestone Alley. The patch is a fundraiser for the United Methodist Church. Carvers should bring their own tools. There is no fee to enter either of these contests. For more information, call 795-0060. Absentee ballots available for Nov. 7 electionINVERNESS -- Absentee ballots for the Nov. 7 general election and the City Council election in Crystal River are available. The ballots can be obtained at the supervisor of elections office, 120 N Apopka Ave., Inverness, Crystal River City Hall or by calling 341-6740 and requesting one by mail. The elections office in Inverness is open weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Crystal River site is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Voters not able to get to the offices and pick up a ballot during the week may vote by absentee on Nov. 4 at the Inverness or Crystal River offices. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
