Carrollwood

BOOKSTORE TO CLOSE: Waldenbooks & More could once claim to be a giant among bookstores in Carrollwood. Now Waldenbooks is closing on Nov. 8 after nearly 12 years in business. In recent years, the 8,000-square-foot store on the corner of Dale Mabry and Fletcher has become the little guy, dwarfed by palatial bookstores in an increasingly competitive market. Borders Books and Music opened a 25,000-square-foot shop a few hundred yards south on Dale Mabry. Barnes & Noble opened a 30,000-square-foot store farther down the road.

SANDWICH SHOP: Quizno's Classic Subs opened last month at the Village Center on N Dale Mabry Highway and Fletcher Avenue, just two doors down from Publix. This specialty sandwich shop offers a variety of meats and cheeses served on a toasted bun. One of the special items is a Black Angus steak sandwich. For information, call (813) 962-0284.

REALTOR MOVES IN: Arvida Realty Services has opened its new offices at 18302 Highwoods Preserve Parkway. Arvida merged two offices in Temple Terrace and Pebble Creek and moved to the new three-story office building, Highwoods Plaza. For information, call (813) 866-4777

GAS STATION GRAND OPENING: The Cross Creek Marathon gas station and convenience store is celebrating its grand opening today with free car washes and discounts on food and gas. Customers who buy 10 gallons of gasoline receive $1 off and a free car wash. Cuban sandwiches are half-priced, 2-liter Pepsi products sell for 99 cents and 12-packs are $2.99. Refillable coffee mugs are available for 99 cents with any purchase of gas. Domino's Pizza, which has a store next to the gas station on Cross Creek Boulevard and Kinnan Street, is giving $3 off large pizzas. People can buy slices of pizza and hot dogs and sodas in the parking lot. The offers began Friday. For information, call (813) 994-3998.
