© St. Petersburg Times, Feel free to browse... Let's play chickenwww.FerryHalim.com/orisinal/games/chicken.htm Here's a quick way to keep you, dull co-workers and small children amused for hours. It's a simple yet addictive game where the premise is to throw an umbrella into the air to save a chicken in free fall. The soft pastels, the passive background music and nonviolent theme will lull you into wasting hours in pursuit of useless fun. It's much better than work. Gadget envywww.HandSpring.com/products/communicators/ Traveling e-mail-enabled fools swear by, rather than at, their Blackberry pagers. And they've been a roaring success because they're insanely useful for us who have (or want) to be connected all the time. But it looks as if others are salivating at that market and finally doing something about it. While not announced in the United States, the Nokia 5510 includes an interesting-looking split keyboard that beats the heck out of composing messages with a standard phone keyboard. Handspring will offer a phone/organizer/e-mail device in 2002 that promises to be GPRS (always-on, high-speed data) compatible. Yummy. The lamest of the WebThere's a certain cruelty in linking to lame Web pages, but we still can be fascinated with the lameness contained therein. In a perverse way, I enjoy the worst that the Web has to offer. But only if it's unintentional. It confirms that we're all basically the same and are fallible in some universal way. What better way to showcase this than on the Web, that great equalizer in self-publishing? My lameness isn't recognized with a link to my personal Web site, but I can hope. USB easywww.KeySpan.com/products/usb/uhm4/ The size of a laptop is just one part of the "weight+ bulk = inconvenience" travel equation. Five pounds or so of laptop plus power adapter and peripherals can easily top 10 pounds if you're not careful. So imagine the joy of finding this roadworthy USB hub. Its diminutive size is friendly toward limited carry-on space. The supplied AC adapter is optional, and for my USB peripherals it hums along just fine without it. Retail is $49, but you can buy it online for as little as $30. Wallaby worthyMy personal collection fetish extends in a few odd directions that include briefcases and backpacks. Usually the swankier the bag, though, the less likely it is to accommodate a large laptop such as my well-abused A21m ThinkPad. However, hooking yourself up with a slip cover from this site allows you to move your gear from case to backpack with ease. It also provides protection against scratches and wear. My Handspring PDA is ensconced in a matching basic black case and those with wilder tastes can suit up with red, purple and, that 1980s standby, teal. It's a well-made kit.
